<p>On slack time period I occasionally browse my old (and still running) applications. I&#8217;ve come to realize that all those applications run generally faster than the recent ones. While it might not be fair to compare them (my recent applications tend to be of more complex nature), I can&#8217;t help but get disheartened.</p>
<p>Computing is all about speed. Web is all about speed. We programmers spend weeks of coding and debugging for a one second gain in code performance.</p>
<p>I have no formal computer background. I thought I was doing fine. But when the going gets tough, i.e. applications grow complex, my experience is just not enough to plug the gap otherwise solved by bit of theory in software engineering. One of these days I should get back to school.</p></div>
